Riki is a litigation director who specialises in Crown prosecutions, civil litigation and regulatory work. Because of the breadth of Riki’s experience, he can help clients think outside the box to find ways of overcoming their obstacles. He values working with clients to achieve an outcome they are happy with.

Riki is a confident litigator. He has significant courtroom experience, having appeared as lead counsel in an array of different fields; civil litigation, employment law, jury trials and environmental law. He has also been appointed as counsel to assist both the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Some of Riki’s recent cases have seen him act for clients in enforcement order proceedings e.g. Waslander v Southland Regional Council [2021] NZEnvC 145, in construction disputes e.g. BDT21-071366, and allegations of negligence and breach of contract.

Being a member of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa and a founding trustee of Tuurama Trust helps Riki stay connected with his whakapapa, as well as support and promote mātauranga Māori. Riki is also a trustee of Miharo Murihiku Trust, known for ‘Polyfest’. This non-competitive cultural performing arts event attracts around 7,000 participants from early childhood through to secondary students.
