Riki is a litigation director who specialises in Crown prosecutions, civil litigation and regulatory work. Because of the breadth of Riki’s experience, he can help clients think outside the box to find ways of overcoming their obstacles. He values working with clients to achieve an outcome they are happy with.

Riki is a confident litigator. He has significant courtroom experience, having appeared as lead counsel in an array of different fields; civil litigation, employment law, jury trials and environmental law. He has also been appointed as counsel to assist both the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Some of Riki’s more recent cases saw him act in judicial review proceedings involving a territorial authority, Thompson v Invercargill City Council [2020] NZHC 174, an application under the Property Law Act 2007, Hollebon v Dudfield [2020] NZDC 15460, and in other proceedings focusing on commercial disputes.

Being a member of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa and current trustee of Tuurama Charitable Trust helps Riki stay connected with his whakapapa, as well as support and promote mātauranga Māori. Riki is also an avid sports follower, who enjoys supporting rugby, squash, basketball and a myriad of other sports.
